RABY Series 2
Assalamualaikum w.b.t
For the second series of Desa Rayang Bumi
Kenyalang (RABY), our programme manager and assistant programme manager were
Amirullah Zulkifli and Fitri Abdul Rahmed respectively. To add, we collaborated with Secretariat of English Language Linguistics and Literature IIUM (ELITS).
June 10, 2015 – Safely landed in Kuching International
Airport (KIA), we were welcomed by Urusetia Saudara Kita (USK)
representatives before heading to Kampung Rudan Rayang. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the villagers. During the opening ceremony, committees were separated to stay with eight foster families. At night, we were invited to attend a small dinner at Maahad Tahfiz.
June 11, 2015 – After our programme coordinators briefed
us the whole schedule, we had our own induction with the
aim to strengthen the relationship among us. Then, we committees visited from a house to another house to collect data on demographic and socioeconomics of the villagers. At night, we held
a da’wah class when we taught the villagers a creative approach to recite the
Qur’an competently.
June 12, 2015 – Early in the morning, committees joined
their respective foster family for Rezeki
Pagi in order to strengthen the relationship between committees and
villagers. After that, some of us conducted Pancing
Botol and Lari Dalam Plastik with
children at a nearby field whereas some managed another activity with younger
kids at the mosque where they colourized drawings.
June 13, 2015 – In the morning, we gathered for a communal
work to clean up the musolla and waqf house. We even re-painted the
house! Then, we had a Cultural Night! Teaming up with their neighbouring
village, the villagers opened the night with their cultural dance. As for us,
we sang ‘Tinggi-Tinggi Gunung Kinabalu’ and ‘Desa Tercinta’. Besides that,
our committee - Nuzul Kassim - showed his martial art skill.
June 14, 2015 – For the day, we resumed our communal work
to complete painting the house which was left unfinished. Yes, we also managed
to improve its drainage system which was to prevent the blockage problem during
rainy days. In the evening, we played Bola
Beracun with the children. Like the previous nights, we had another religious
class with the teaching of al-Baghdadi ‘knocking’ technique.
June 15, 2015 – This time, we were split into two teams.
One stayed here in the village to prepare for the closing ceremony whereas the
other team hit Sekolah Kebangsaan St. James with the mission to provide an English
tutorial for twelve-year-old students. As for the closing ceremony, committees
and villagers had a festive dinner with delicious dishes such as chicken curry,
grilled beef and more.
June 16, 2015 – Before heading to Kuching, we had our last breakfast with our respective foster family. On our journey to Kuching, we visited Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara (DBKU) for our own educational visit. After buying some souvenirs and local food, we departed for the airport for our flight which was scheduled to depart by 10.20 PM.
Supported by several personal contributions and NGOs such as Pusat Perundingan & Pengurusan Al-Azim, DBKU and USK, RABY Series 2 was a success. Hopefully, we're looking forward to the third series... in sha Allah
